Hande ESLEN-ZIYA

Postdoctoral fellow at the School of Applied Human Sciences, College of Humanities,

Dr. Eslen-Ziya received her doctorate degree at Polish Academy of Sciences IFIS
PAN, Warsaw. She also received a Ph.D. Specialization on Gender Studies at the
Central European University in Budapest in 2002. Hande Eslen-Ziya, is a
Postdoctoral fellow at the School of Applied Human Sciences, College of Humanities,
University of KwaZulu Natal.
Her research is theoretically informed by social psychology, feminist psychology and
sociology, as well as gender role strain, conceptions of femininity and masculinity
and gendered migration. Currently Eslen-Ziya preparing materials for a monograph
on Centralized Islam for Socio-Economic Control: The Religious Making of Identities
and Gender Roles in Turkey building on a project funding from Koç University
Centre for Women Studies in Istanbul that allowed us to collect sermons from 10
different Turkish counties and interview around 1,000 attendants of mosque sermons
to analyse their perception of gender and family discourses. Her most recent
